Questions that we frequently answer.

What is the electrical current at HCB? Do you need an adapter?
The electrical current is 110 and no, you do not need an adapter coming from North America.

Is travel insurance is necessary?
We recommend travel insurance in case, for some reason, you must cancel your visit at the last moment. In such a case, travel insurance would prevent the loss of your deposit. You can apply on line at www.TravelGuard.com. Also American Airlines now has travel insurance on line when you book your flight.

How do I confirm my reservations?
To confirm reservations we accept Visa or Master Card and a full deposit for a one week stay or less. 50% deposit is required for more than a one week stay; the (50%) balance would be due on the day of arrival. You can email, fax or telephone your credit card information to the office.
There is also a $50 administration fee for changes in reservations.

How far is it to the nearest beach and do you provide lounge chairs?
It is a 5 min stroll down from HCB to Oualie Beach, which is the nearest beach to the property and sand chairs which are easy to take to the beach are provided. Lovers Beach is a 10 minute walk and definitely worth the walk. There are of course, other beaches on the island to either snorkel, swim or just spend the day limin.

Are restaurants and grocery store easily accessible?
The closest restaurants: Oualie Beach Resort(5 min walk) The closest grocery store, is by the Newcastle airport (about 20 min walk) They are, of course easily accessible by taxis, Car, Jeep and Bus. There are a number of restaurants on Nevis, from local to 5 star. Reservations are necessary for some, but bookings should not be done until you arrival to the island. ( Being Nevis there are not line ups for restaurant dining). Some(3)grocery stores(5) are open 7 days a week.

Do you have 1)laundry facilities for guests: 2) internet access: 3)snorkeling equipment? 4) maid service?
1)HCB does not provide laundry facilities for guests. However, your maid, at your request, will do laundry at her home for as nominal fee.
2)Seastone is the only bungalow with internet access. However, we do also have internet access for our guests on the property during office hours. There are several internet cafes in town as well.
3) Snorkeling equipment is available free to our guests during their stay, based on availability.
4) Maid service is provided, except Sunday and Holidays.

How many persons occupy each bungalow?
Occupancy depends on number of bedrooms:
i.e. 1 bedroom - 2 persons; 2 bedrooms - 4 persons; 3 bedrooms - 6 persons. Each person(no age difference) that is extra is charged @ 25USD per day. (additional bed set-up arrangements(if available) are also charged)


How do I get from St. Kitts/ St. Maarten/ Antigua and do I require a reservation?
You can get from these islands by air, and yes you do require a reservation.

If you are landing in St Kitts: we will arrange for a taxi to meet you and have you on the next available ferry to Nevis. There are no inter island flights at the present time. Before you secure your reservation please check with the ferry schedules to make sure there is one available at your time of arrival.

Private water taxis: Hurricane Cove can arrange a private water taxi to meet you in St Kitts, and bring you to Nevis, depending on the time of day/night will also depend on the price. We will be more than happy to provide you with the information as to times.prices and who to contact.
For you arrivals, Hurricane Cove Bungalows will arrange a taxi to meet you at the airport in Nevis (or St Kitts) whether you are travelling on the public ferry to Nevis or private water taxi. Taxi rates are scheduled by the Taxi Association. Approx fare from Airport to HCB is $12-15USD. Approximate fare from Charlestown-HCB is $15-20USD. Please remember these fares are also based on amount of people, luggage and time of day or night.

What is the transportation on the island?
The mode of transportation on the island is:
Taxis, Car, Bus, Bicycle and walking.

What is the dress code?
The dress code is casual or dressy casual at night. For day trips to Charlestown or St. Kitts please dress accordingly. NO bare chests or bathing suits.
Swimsuits and bare chests are for the beach only.
We do not have clothing optional beaches.

Do you supply linens and kitchen utensils?
Each bungalow has a fully equipped kitchen, including a microwave. All linens including beach towels are included. (Any type of) Food items are not supplied by Hurricane Cove. Maid service is available. (except Sundays and holidays)

Do you allow pets?
Sorry ,we do not allow pets of any kind on our property. There are approximately 16 monkeys living behind on the hill, a few mongoose and one cat (Jeani) in the open spaces as well. And,of course our own resident puppy: Luxi.

What is the island currency?
Although US Dollars are readily used on the island. Our currency is Eastern Caribbean Dollars. (1USD = 2.60-2.65ECD) ATMs dispense only ECDs. When travelling it may be wise to carry some USD in cash (small bills)for incidentals during your trip.


Is it necessary to make reservations for sport activities or dinner before arrival?
There are many activities such as, hiking, biking, fishing, sailing, windsurfing, scuba and snorkelling, restaurants etc. All reservations for these activities can be made upon arrival. Please remember that since we are a small unspoiled island, it is not necessary to book activities and dinner BEFORE your arrival.
Dinner reservations should be made once you reach Nevis, not before.
Guests are requested to make their own reservations. Some restaurants and sports activites do require a deposit by credit card. In case of cancellatioin within their time limit there may also be a cancellation fee to apply.

What is your check in-check out time?
Check in is 4 pm. however for arrivals prior to that time we will try and accomodate you by 2 p.m, (based on the availability of the bungalow of choice). Check out is 10 a.m. We have added a hospitality room for guests with late flights. Once you have checked out of your bungalow at the required time, you can easily leave your luggage and explore the island once last time. When you return if you would like to freshen up, the hospitality room awaits you.


Are the bungalows air conditioned and do you have television?radios?
No, the bungalows are not air conditioned.
Since we are situated on Hurricane Hill we have constant trade winds that cool our bungalows. Televisions(radios) are not part of our make up as well. Being an eco-friendly resort with a place for our guests to relax and enjoy not only the peacefulness and privacy of a well earned vacation; but also helping the environment in cutting down on the factors that are and have been part of destroying the sphere, is what we are about and more. We have in some bungalows; pull cord showers and water heater timers to conserve water and energy.

Excess baggage may be subject to additional charges on inter-island flights.

The MV SEA HUSTLER,MV CARIB BREEZE/Surf, Mark Twain, and Caribe Queen are all passenger ferry service that operate between St.Kitts and Nevis on a daily basis. The crossing takes about 35 minutes to an hour (depending on the ferry) The cost also varies depending on the ferry approx $25.00EC. Rates and times are subject to change. Call direct 1-869-466-4636 or log on to www.sknvibes.com/ferryschedule OR www.leytonms.com. In addition, a $1.00ECD per person is also charged as a seaport tax. THERE ARE NO ADVANCE TICKETS OR RESERVATIONS FOR THE FERRY .
The pier is 15 minutes from the airport in St Kitts; and also in Nevis. We are 5 minutes from the airport in Nevis. Private boat charters are also available for late night arrivals. ($225.US)
And introducing the SEA BRIDGE: A car ferry(will also accept passengers without vehicles) from Cades Bay to Majors Bay in St. Kitts. Leaves Nevis 8 a.m.and every even hour after that until 6 p.m. Leaves St Kitts at 9 a.m. and every odd hour after that until 7 p.m. Rate is $150 round trip for car and driver...passengers extra ($15ECD) Reservations are not needed. Trip takes about 15 minutes.

TAXIS are available to meet all incoming travelers at airport, or pier and also provide interesting and comfortable guided island tours. For your convenience we will arrange for a taxi to meet you upon arrival.(whether it be in St Kitts or Nevis)

CAR RENTALS We can arrange your car rental for you. (Average rate is 40USD per day and up). Each driver is required to purchase a temporary license (valid up to three months) from the Police Station for a fee of EC $67.50 (US $25).
NB Driving is on the left. Please make sure you bring your unexpired drivers license, otherwise a St Kitts/Nevis licence cannot be issued.

Climate
The island enjoys warm temperatures, tempered by breezes from the northeast trade winds. With low humidity and brief rainy season, Nevis climate is pleasant all year round. (High 70s to Mid-High 80s) We do suggest a light sweater for evenings.

Cancellation Policy
Full refund of Deposits for cancellations at least 90 days prior to arrival date, less $100 administration fee. If cancellations are made less than 90 days prior to arrival, then only the amount that we are able to rebook; less $100 admin fee will be refunded.

Changes in Confirmed Reservations
For any changes in a confirmed reservation a $50 admin fee is charged.

What Travel Documents are Necessary?
Definitely a valid passport is needed to travel! Make sure your passport is valid for re-entry into your country after travelling. (Some Countries require 6 month minimum for re entry) . Two forms of government issued identification are sometimes not enough for proof since 9/11. Be prepared with your necessary travel documents. Please check with authorities before you travel.

Am I allowed to bring food/liquor into Nevis?
Non-perishable items for personal use are usually permitted; within moderation. However it is always up to the discretion of the customs official. We do have a number of grocery stores for your shopping and well stocked libation sections for your added pleasure. An open air market with produce from neighbouring islands is available from Tues-Sat (in Charlestown, by the pier)
